Hi, Mr. Mark here! First, allow me to present my mission statement:
Mr. Mark is passionate about music and its positive effects on the overall development of children and he is commited to leading fun, informal, and socially engaging classes that support each child's musical development.
Now, a bit about me. I have been leading family music classes for more than a score of yearsI (That's more than 20 years, but a 'score' of years sounds more musical.) For many of those years I ran Music Together classes. Recently I have begun leading Mr Mark's Music classes.
I started my association with Music Together back in the 20th century, as a dad attending classes with my family. I took Music Together teacher training hosted by the Center for Music and Young Children in Princeton, NJ, in 1999. As a registered Music Together teacher for more than a quarter century(!), I have had the pleasure of making music with more than 2,300(!) individual children and their families.
Over the years, I gathered my own list of favorite songs and I am turning them into Mr Marks Music collections. My classes now use song collections curated by me exclusively for my family music classes.
When not leading family music classes (and when not sleeping, which I don't do nearly as much as I would like--sound familiar?), I teach formal music lessons in piano, guitar, recorder, and drums to many young people and adults. Some of my students are former Music Together & Mr Marks Music children!
Every summer, I write and music direct a family mini-musical show that is produced outdoors in Lake Forest by Citadel Theatre
Some evenings, I perform my brand of jazz music at festivals and other events. I am a composer of stage musicals and I have a B.A. in Theatre from the University of Illinois. (My diploma's in a box in one of the closets around here...I think.)
